President Trump Gets Started

eldorepublicans

In the week since the Inauguration, America has changed dramatically for the better. President Trump hit the ground running, he and his team immediately working towards fulfilling campaign promises and getting America on the road to healing. Protestors have been pardoned and are back home with their families. Relief is on the way to those long neglected in disaster zones, and common sense policy is returning to the White House and Congress. Pro-America values are putting the American government back to work for the American people.

So far, six members of President Trump’s cabinet have been sworn in:

  • Secretary of State Marco Rubio

  • CIA Director John Ratcliffe

  • Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth

  • Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem

  • Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent

  • Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy

We congratulate them and look forward to those still to come. Of particular note, today the Senate interviewed and will be voting on whether to confirm MAHA (Make America Healthy Again) favorite, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. for Secretary of Health and Human Services. Additionally, hearings for Tulsi Gabbard for National Intelligence and Kash Patel for the FBI are scheduled for later this week, among others. Also of note, the bipartisan Laken Riley Act has been signed into law as the first piece of legislation under this administration.

One of President Trump’s early priorities as President was to personally visit the devastated areas of North Carolina and here in California. While in California, he sat down to speak with several California politicians and response personnel. At the table were El Dorado County Congressmen Tom McClintock and Kevin Kiley. Representative Kiley made a point of mentioning the victims of the Caldor Fire in Grizzly Flats, emphasizing that El Dorado County understands the challenges faced by those affected by the fires in Southern California. Among other considerations, President Trump strongly advocated for red tape to be cut so homeowners could be allowed to return to their properties and get started rebuilding their homes and their lives.

Three issues particularly related to California continue to be hot topics. How best to distribute this aid to best match the unique needs of the people in each region is something this administration is closely looking at. Additionally, many disaster victims on both the East and West coasts have expressed deep concerns over availability of insurance and regulations around insurance for disaster relief. Finally, California's ever-contentious land and water management has been a source of intense conversation and scrutiny over the last few days.

These are all issues that we here in El Dorado County have felt the impact of. Those impacted by the Caldor Fire and other fires in our county have also felt the difficulty of navigating aid, insurance, and regulations in order to begin rebuilding. Additionally, we understand how critical it is to have wise, common-sense policy on how to manage our water and land to prevent and mitigate damage from fires, floods, and drought.

These issues being discussed on the national stage are issues that deeply impact the lives of everyone here in El Dorado County. It highlights how important it is to be informed on decisions being made in state and local government, to know who your representatives are and how to reach them, and to know what your vote means for candidates and propositions.

We are excited to celebrate President Trump's Inauguration. But we must also follow the example he is setting. Now is not the time to relax, but rather to dig in and get to work Making America Great Again! There is much individuals can do at a local level to make a difference.
