Looking Forward

eldorepublicans

Happy New Year! And congratulations to Donald J. Trump on a smooth certification as 47th President of the United States! As we move into a new year and a new administration, there is much to look forward to.

Already both businessmen and world leaders are reaching out to President Trump to see how they can work with him. Companies are rolling back their DEI programs and are preparing to make the most of the freer economy anticipated under President Trump's leadership, and many world leaders are eager to discuss trade relationships. Some particularly notable changes in American companies have been that both Jeff Bezos of Amazon and the Washington Post and Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook and Instagram have expressed an intent to reduce or remove censorship from their platforms and join the movement toward greater free speech for our country.

Since the election, President Trump has been hard at work putting together his cabinet team in order to hit the ground running after his Inauguration on January 20th. His picks include people from many walks of life who are eager to make the government get back to work for the people rather than against them. Additionally, Mike Johnson has been reelected Speaker of the House. While some concerns have been voiced over Speaker Johnson, President Trump has expressed optimism on working with him going forward.

While we are enthusiastic and optimistic about our country's future under President Trump's leadership, our state continues to experience hard times. Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by the fires in the greater L.A. area. As a county that has suffered from significant fires in the past, we have great sympathy for what our fellow Californians to the south are experiencing. El Dorado County has already gone beyond verbal support, as our firefighters were among the first to join the L.A. area firefighters in tackling this ongoing disaster, as mentioned in an L.A. firefighting briefing.

Those who are in El Dorado County know we live in a great county. We are fortunate to have Republican leaders, such as Federal House Representatives Kevin Kiley and Tom McClintock, who are both experienced regarding some of California's trials. Kiley has expressed how our county can be a leader to the state. It is likely that our local Congressmen may have the opportunity to work with President Trump for insight into tackling the challenges of California firefighting and recovery. While the state government obviously has a great deal of say over what happens, the federal government owns and manages a substantial amount of land in the west, including in California and our own El Dorado National Forest, which Wikipedia lists as approximately 43% of our county land (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Dorado_County,_California).

We look forward to the Inauguration of President Trump and the implementation of common sense policies that will improve the lives of all citizens of our country.
