California Republicans Battle for Common Sense

California Republicans are pulling together across the state to bring back common sense policy. The CA GOP, lead by Chair Corrin Rankin, and Representatives such as El Dorado County’s Kevin Kiley are uniting voters against Governor Newsom’s desperate redistricting endeavor, El Dorado County’s Representative Tom McClintock is bringing much needed changes to Forest Management, and local Republicans are gathering in rallies and petitions to stop bad policies such as the child-endangering bill AB 495 in its tracks. Across the state, CA Republicans are tackling reckless and unwise Democrat maneuvering. As candidates begin to prepare for the next election cycle, it is more crucial than ever for Republicans to come together to highlight a better path forward for our state.

In an effort to prevent the common sense changes CA voters want to see, Governor Newsom and the Democrat legislature are pushing to redistrict California (https://aelc.assembly.ca.gov/proposed-congressional-map). California’s current districts have been in effect since 2022 and would not normally be reevaluated until after the next census in 2030. Representative Kevin Kiley, whose district would be significantly impacted by the change, is opposing this premature redistricting that could cost taxpayers $250 million by putting forward a bill of his own, stating “Two-thirds of voters are against his Redistricting Sham.” (https://x.com/KevinKileyCA/status/1957592397388685493). The California Republican Party shared how California voters can make their own voices heard on this matter by attending the committee hearing 8/19/2025 or submitting a comment online (https://x.com/CAGOP/status/1957254813043073254).

Also happening this Tuesday, 8/19/2025, is a Rally in Sacramento speaking out against AB 495. This bill puts children at significant risk and dramatically undermines parental rights by allowing “any adult to claim they are a child’s “caregiver” simply by filling out and signing a Caregiver’s Authorization Affidavit — with no parent consent, no parent notification, no photo I.D., no court review, and no background check” (https://intercom.help/real-impact/en/articles/11787450-ab-495-rally-lobby-day). Children would be at significant risk of trafficking and kidnapping, and the bill sidesteps parental authority and oversight. Click the link to read more about the many concerning elements of the bill. Help put common sense back in the driver’s seat by joining the rally or reaching out to your representative to encourage them to say NO to a bill that attacks the very heart of our state, California families.

Forest management policy also greatly impacts California families Representative Tom McClintock has been hard at work bringing common sense bills on forest management to the House of Representatives. As every Californian knows, wildfires can change a community overnight. El Dorado County’s Caldor Fire devastated the Grizzly Flats area and many others, but McClintock points out in an article in the Mountain Democrat that it slowed and laid down in South Lake Tahoe, which he credits to a policy he authored in 2016 (https://www.mtdemocrat.com/news/congressman-mcclintock-pushes-for-federal-forest-management-reforms/article_dd46fa64-0085-4d67-b86e-13fc7148ac03.html). The policy streamlined the environmental review process, allowing overgrown forests to be cleared much more quickly. He is now bringing that policy to the House as H.R. 179 and is also pushing for faster fire suppression with H.R. 178. These bills combined could go a long way to improving federal forest management and wildfire prevention. This could have particular significance for El Dorado County, as El Dorado National Forest makes up about 43% of our beautiful county (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Dorado_County,_California).

Republicans are hard at work across the state to make common sense the rule of the land. El Dorado County’s Representatives are leading the charge in many of the crucial battlefields, and you can join them in making a difference by attending a committee meeting/rally, letting your representatives know where you stand on critical bills, and getting involved with your local Republican Central Committee. Come to our next General Meeting on September 8th or Contact Us for more information.
