CNN Uses Fake "College Republican" To Slam McCain
The media's love affair with Barack Obama seems to have taken a turn for the worse. A CNN report on college activism included an interview with a supposedly demoralized member of the College Republicans from the University of Southern California, but the supposed college student is not a member of the USC College Republicans.
It seems that CNN, in a sparkling display of incompetence or malfeasance, was willing to ignore common journalistic practice and abandon its editorial integrity to get the scoop on a 'College Republican' willing to feed their own preconceived notions.
The media continues to give credence to the notion that they are in love with Barack Obama.
CNN’S LACKLUSTER JOURNALISTIC REPORTING - USES FAKE COLLEGE REPUBLICAN
“ERIC PEARLMUTTER, USC YOUNG REPUBLICANS: We try to get people out to our college Republican meetings and we can't seem to draw the same type of vocal support.” (CNN Transcript, “American Morning,” Accessed: 7/24/08 8:32 pm PDT - http://edition.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0807/24/ltm.01.html)
“In its Thursday morning report, according to a news release from the student organization, CNN interviewed someone identified as Eric Pearlmutter, who was said to be a USC student and College Republican. ‘We try to get people out to our College Republican meetings, but we can't seem to get the same amount of support,’ he said.” (Andrew Malcolm, “USC young Republicans allege phony CNN interview,” The Los Angeles Times, 7/24/08)
USC COLLEGE REPUBLICANS RESPOND
CNN Uses Fake "College Republican" To Slam McCain - Story bashing McCain relies On Planted Quotes:
“On Thursday morning, CNN ran a story about young voters and the presidential election. The premise of the story is that young Republicans say there is an ‘enthusiasm gap between them and their candidate.’ The only problem is that CNN relies on quotes from a fake College Republican. Ben Meyers, the President of the USC College Republican, had different story. ‘I have never met Eric Pearlmutter. I have never seen him at a College Republican meeting. He is not on our membership roster. I don't know why someone would think he has speaks for us. As far as I know, he could be a Democrat.’ (California College Republicans Release, “CNN Uses Fake ‘College Republican’ To Slam McCain,” 7/24/08 http://www.collegegop.org/)
CNN UPDATES NAME AND STORY
