The American people are facing tough economic times right now. Economists and historians say today’s recession is at least as hard as the Jimmy Carter era and maybe as bad as the FDR Great Depression. (Not coincidentally, those eras were led by Democratic Presidents.)
Like in those times, people have turned to their political leaders for help—wanting to empower Washington and Sacramento to come up with political solutions to solve life problems.
Many who voted in the last election believed that they were voting for a government that would give them free health care, eliminate their credit card debt and remove the responsibility of the individual to pay their mortgages.
Today after passing a $1.9-trillion boondoggle that no one in Congress read, seizing GM, Chrysler and AIG, and taking over our financial system, unemployment is now at 9.5% and rising faster than a Black Eyed Peas single on the bill-board charts.
This wasn't simply implied by the Democrats and their media cohorts, it was the cornerstone of the campaign with a promise that there would be no new taxes to boot for the bottom 95% of America. All at a time, when unemployment was below 6% and the Dems were braying “worst economy ever!”

The reaction from the politicians is not surprising; they need to spend even more money and there isn't any time or room for debate. They have to do something to help the American people and instill confidence to the economy.
That means more tax-and-spend just like their idols Carter, LBJ and FDR.
This idea is not new: Punish business owners for being "successful,” cease as many large corporations as possible and make government so big there is no choice but to fall into lock step and mirror European Socialists.
The irony most of those countries have elected conservative leaders these last few years.
There is an assault on small and large business today. It comes directly from state and federal governments like a bullet on a bulls-eye target. Every "fairness plan" includes a tax on business owners, who are expected to do more with less, to weather current economic hardships, and absorb massive tax increases and regulations set forth by our government.
The truth is many politicians simply don't care. Businesses are mandated to do more with less. Adjust to the current environment and survive or not as the "free market" allows.
What needs to be done to stop the madness is not to convince the American people to simply vote Republican; both Bush Presidents, Gov. Pete Wilson and the current “Governator” proved that not all Republicans believe in smaller government.
Rather, we as conservatives must go to the people and prove to them that their right to manifest their own destiny is being stolen from them.
Republicans’ focus should be on Americans who have jobs or have lost jobs despite what the government has done.
The obvious solution to happiness is to count on yourself to pursue your dreams and professional goals in life. We in the Republican Party should be pointing out that the people empowered to legislate our lives and interpret our Constitution are not the best and brightest that America has to offer. It is individuals who, given the opportunity, can achieve fantastic results without government support.
Republicans’ focus should be on Americans who have jobs or have lost jobs despite what the government has done. We should point out that of the jobs saved or created by Obama wasn't theirs; that his plan can't create any jobs unless government hires people directly…And, in the case of California, you'll be paid with IOUs!
We in the Republican Party have and excellent opportunity to prove to American workers that there isn't any bailout for voters, that the Democrats’ road to recovery is paved not with good intentions but with pain and hardship. And that the true greatness of the American Dream is not socialized medicine or carbon footprints, but the ability to manifest your own destiny unencumbered by a gigantic government that will tell you how to live from cradle to grave.
